ACGA Welcomes New Board Members

Major"Nev" Julian Major IV
Director of Gift Planning Administration
The Nature Conservancy

About Nev

I’ve been with The Nature Conservancy for over 23 years, starting out answering the toll-free number for donors and supporters. During my career, I’ve worked on multiple campaigns, major and complex gifts and have been fortunate enough to work in the Gift Planning program for over 16 years now. I remember when I first started to learn about planned gifts and was overwhelmed by things like net present value and the impact of inflation on beneficiary payments over time and thinking…what have I got myself into! But over the years, I have seen how powerful gift planning can be to TNC’s mission and helping our donors achieve their philanthropic objectives Gift Planning has been a great field because you’re always able to learn something new and deal with new challenges.

What's Interesting About Nev

As a native Virginian, I enjoy hiking along many of the great trails that are readily available. We also enjoy camping, time at the beaches of North Carolina and I consider myself a pretty average golfer.

What Excites Nev About Being Part of the ACGA Board

I’m excited to serve on the ACGA board because of the great work the board does to truly help all of our member organizations. This board produces real, tangible products and information that helps advance the charitable work of our member organizations. It provides a community where people can get real help.

What Nev Thinks Everyone Should Know About the ACGA

As a very new member of the board, I was very impressed by the camaraderie and teamwork all board members bring to the organization to deal with some very technical and difficult issues. I also think the ACGA is thoroughly committed to being responsive to member needs and advancing all forms of charitable giving, not just gift annuities.

About Cathy

My passion is helping individuals plan their charitable legacy through planned gifts!  I accomplish this through ThinkGiving, a boutique planned giving consulting firm I founded in 2017, and my work as a values-based estate planner with Thompson & Associates.

What's Interesting About Cathy

I am an avid traveler.  I love traveling the world and learning about different cultures.   I have been blessed to have been able to visit 47 of the 50 states and over 20 different countries in our beautiful world.

What Excites Cathy About Being Part of the ACGA Board

Charitable Gift Annuities help an individual fulfill their philanthropic goals as well as their personal financial needs and objectives.  It is an honor to be a part of an organization with such a rich history of helping nonprofits with their gift annuity programs.  I am excited about the fact that ACGA promotes good donor and nonprofit relations by creating gifts that are good for both parties.

What Cathy Thinks Everyone Should Know About the ACGA

ACGA is the leader in gift annuity research and surveys.  The research and surveys are provided to members, and the greater nonprofit community, so that nonprofits can evaluate their gift annuity program.  As a practitioner, I have found this information vital with regard to benchmarking the programs I administered.
